Functionality refers to the way a website is used, not its technical capabilities.

Unless your audience has a prior knowledge of the tools, navigation and layout of your website, it should have a lowlearning curve. This means a conventional design, which often goes against what most designers think makes a good website.

Visitors aren't coming to your site to view 'your' content, they are looking for 'their' content. An important distinction but one definitely worth remembering.
